It was amazing to see manatees all week long just off the balcony in the Inter-coastal Waterway in St. Pete’s beach.
I wasn’t aware they utilize their internal gasses to control their buoyancy.
Farting to go down, and retaining their gas to help them float.
It is said their flatulence is similar to our in smell.
I also learned it’s a federal offense to harm, interfere, hug, or disturb a manatee!
They can swim slowly at 5mph… or as fast as 15 mph.
They can be as long as 10-13’ and weight in at 1500-3000 lbs.
Extremely gentle creatures who’s lives can easily be disturbed by human intervention
Observe and appreciate from a distance!
