Brown Pelican

Brown Pelican Soaring (Pelecanus occidentalis): Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Prehistoric looking birds they are, soaring effortlessly over the waters edge, sometime in squadrons, sometimes solitary hunters, they often skim the waves in search of a meal, then when spotting a suspected target, they suddenly pull their nose up, bank over to either side, fold their wings tight to their bodies, then dive head first into the ocean for their prey.
